Serving the Lost: Our Church's Mission and Vision

In a world filled with distractions and challenges, many individuals find themselves feeling lost and disconnected. At RFMC, The Outpost, we recognize this profound need and are committed to serving those who are searching for purpose, community, and spiritual fulfillment. This blog post will explore our mission and vision, detailing how we aim to reach out to the lost and provide them with the support and guidance they seek.

Understanding Our Mission

The philosophy of ministry here takes the combined ideas of "Be the Church," "Ministry matters most," and "the most important person on a Sunday is the one not here yet," and reframes it like this:

"Seek the lost, serve them in love, and introduce them to the Savior." This means we engage with the broken world, whether it is through ministry outreach, community events we help with, or by being the light in a secular workplace, school, or our families. We go to the broken and engage them, and then we show them love and respect, remembering that every man, woman, or child we encounter is the image bearer of God. And by loving them, we open the door to share the gospel with them. Sometimes people will respond, and we get the pleasure of leading them to Christ, and other times, they need more love. Either way, we walk through life with them for the season that God has brought them to us.

Living out this mission statement means fulfilling the great commission:

Matthew 28:16-20

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

As a church, our heartbeat should be a desire to fulfill the Great Commission to the best of our abilities. And that means a few things for us: we must be people of the Word, daily receiving nourishment from the Word and storing it as wisdom within our hearts and minds. It means we must be people of prayer, not only for ourselves and our family, but for our church, the congregants, and our community.

We strive to collaborate with other churches, both within our denomination and beyond, to serve and benefit our communities. Our goal is to grow the kingdom by making disciples. This means that sometimes those we lead to Christ will join our congregation, and other times they may connect with another church family. Either way, that is perfectly acceptable, as we are fulfilling our calling to spread the message of Jesus Christ.
